Date Night

Kelly has given me two great things over the last couple of years to help me be a great dad. One is to tell my girls daily, "Out of all the daughters in the world, God gave me the best ones."

Second, is date night. Periodically, I will take our girls on a date. We want our girls to feel special and begin to learn what to expect from their future suitors. Sometimes I will take just one and at other times I will take both. With Valentine’s this week, I get to take Parker and Emery on a Valentine’s date. Tonight was the date and it was a blast.

Kelly told the girls about our date on the way home this afternoon. They were excited, remembering past dates to places like Chuck E. Cheese, McDonald’s play land, ice cream from Sonic, and more. But tonight, Parker blew me away.

As soon as I got home from work, Parker raced down stairs dressed up and ready to go. Her excitement was so off the charts that she could not stop talking and could not be still. Kelly said that as soon as she got home, Parker went to her room and picked out her outfit. She showed it off before we left. At the restaurant (Logan’s for those keeping score…both girls love the peanuts and rolls, love them), I told Parker she looked pretty and it made me feel special that she took the time to dress nice for our date.

Parker responded by saying, "When you and mommy go on dates, mommy always dresses pretty. So, I wanted to dress pretty for our date."  Talk about melting your heart.  After the big time at Logan’s, we hung out at Target for a little bit getting Valentine’s cards for their preschool parties. Then we ended the night with some ice cream treats at Sonic. I love date night with my girls, including Kelly.

Dads, date your daughters
